Where do you turn when nothing makes sense? When logic feels out of reach, where do you go? I’m not here to answer that question for you. I’m here to encourage you to get clearer about where that is for you. “It doesn’t make any sense”. Notice when your inner monologue hits this wall over and over again. Then recognize it’s time to stop trying to make sense out of it. Instead, turn to your trusted places – the drums, your favorite park, the yoga mat, your mentors and teachers. They’re here to help. They’re here to soothe the sting that comes with our innate desire to make sense out of nonsense despite the fact that not all things are meant to go that way.

When political climates seem impossibly illogical, when tragic events hit, when you lose a loved one, when a partner breaks your heart or a boss fires you, know where you go when it doesn’t make sense. Start there and place that soothing balm on the singed skin of the unfathomable on your heart. It’s ok to linger in the non-sense of matters longer than we want. It’s ok to put down the non-sense even if we never make sense out of it. What does matter, is tuning in ever more clearly to the sanctuaries we’ve cultivated where we can ride it out when the illogical, unfathomable, heart-aching nonsense feels a bit too overwhelming to stand. It’s ok to retreat for a bit. That’s why we build our sanctuaries in times of peace so we already know where to go in times of tumult and unrest. Give yourself permission to exhale there for a bit and trust you’ll find your way back to an easier breath outside of that cocoon in due time.
