Let the "To-Be" List Inform the "To-Do" List

How often do we measure our days by our to-do lists? I got this done, I checked this off my list, I have a big to-do list. What is it like, instead, to feel accomplished in a day’s work by following your to-be list?

When we use the “to be” list to inform the “to do” list we can let that lead us into what’s next. We can begin to orient ourselves in a day toward feeling a certain way – to be calmer, to be happier, to be relaxed, to be blissful, to be connected. We make choices that put us in the way of that kind of experience. You want to put yourself in the way of being satiated so you do things that fill your appetite. You want to be inspired so you spend time in a way you know inspires you. You want to be playful so you play a game. This is how we can start.

We discover for ourselves how it is we want to be in a day, who it is we want to be in a day, and we put ourselves in the way of that happening. We participate in activities that facilitate that for us in a day. If we want to be connected, we participate in a group activity. If we want to be grounded, we spend time with the earth. Oftentimes that it factor we think we’re after isn’t something we reach for and bring into our orbit. I find it’s typically already available and we’re being tasked with learning how to show up for it.

Do the next best thing, and let your “to-be” list serve as the GPS to get you there.
