Life Always has Unfinished Business: Seek Inner Resolve Instead

Sometimes you won’t get it all done. Sometimes you’ll lie down to sleep and mull over all the unfinished tasks from the day, the week. In fact, most of the time the to-do list will never be done, the conflict will never be fully resolved, the unknown will never fully reveal the whole known.

The reality is it’s not about completing it all, it’s about finding a sense of finality internally with the unfinished business of our day to day lives. Finding inner resolve over and over again is within our capacities even while outside ourselves everything may still feel pending.

Full arrival in our external worlds is like a mirage that sits right at the horizon, a mere illusion of a finish line. So if you’re in constant pursuit of a line that will always be just beyond your reach, maybe ask how you can find a feeling of completion without that condition.

A body fully at rest, a quieted mind, a peaceful emotion or an easeful breath —- these simple (yet rarely easy) experiences are ends in themselves. Let them be. And turn to them when you find yourself craving a sense of “it’s all complete” at the end of your day.

In this way, we may find that the feeling of finishing “unfinished business” actually comes from seeking more of less.
