Seek More of Less

I often find myself considering one guiding question, “How can I carve ME into the current situation?” The same way our bodies displace water when we swim in a pool or lake, we allow the environment to surround us yet not consume us. Perhaps it influences us, cooling our bodies in the water example, yet we remain our own entity. In fact, we even contribute to it.

This, I believe, is how we begin to develop our inner authority. We step into any scenario and carve ourselves into what’s there in order to harmoniously engage with the situation at hand while simultaneously influencing its evolution. We can bring a calm perspective to a tense encounter, we can bring reason and curiosity into a heated debate, we can bring a slowed-down pace to an urgent energy, or a quiet sense of attention to a conversation of loud opinions. This isn’t meant to exemplify that our individual presence is always there to counterbalance the energy of the room we enter.

It’s about choosing to show up with the intentions we seek to feel (calm, at peace, curious, or attentive) regardless of what we encounter on the outside. This type of practice is what allows us to build a strong sense of self-credibility: the capacity to generate the experience we desire without reliance on external conditions.

When we hear unconditional love, peace, or integrity, I personally believe this is what we’re talking about. What are your unconditionals? What do you choose to evoke in the way you show up in your day to day life without condition? This may strike as totally unclear for you right now or regularly evolving. That’s ok. The intention is a practice and it begins with a question. How are you carving yourself into the moment at hand?

In this way, we may find that the feeling of finishing “unfinished business” actually comes from seeking more of less.
